2009 LyondellBasell Bike Around the Bay- "The Ride for Recovery"
October 10-11, 2009- Early Registration Extended to June 30!
We are pleased to announce that Bike Around the Bay will be back in 2009! After being derailed by Hurricane Ike in 2008, we will be back stronger than ever in 2009. As an organization, the Galveston Bay Foundation continues to respond to Hurricane Ike impacts like marine debris, oyster reef loss, and the closure of key public access points like Galveston Island State Park. However, we have determined that it is more important now than ever to bring people back down the shores of Galveston Bay. What better way than a great two day bike ride!

The "LyondellBasell Bike Around the Bay" is a fun two day, 148 mile bicycle ride around Galveston Bay showcasing the natural beauty of Galveston Bay and benefiting the Galveston Bay Foundation. We are pleased to offer the second annual version of the ride this year and we hope to improve on what was a great first year. The ride will once again start in Anahuac, Texas and continue along a scenic route that includes many fascinating sights and highlights. Riders will spend the night in Galveston where they will enjoy an informal Beach Party at Moody Gardens' Palm Beach. Day 2 will bring the riders north along the west side of Galveston Bay where they will ultimately finish outside of Baytown, Texas.
A Great Ride Day 1: 74 miles, Day 2: 74 miles, totaling 148 miles. With exceptional coastal prairie landscape, well supported for safety and convenience.
A Great Cause The continuation of the Galveston Bay Foundation's programs in advocacy, conservation, education, and research that protects the bay for present users and for posterity.
A Great Event Second annual 2-day bike tour that encompasses route diversity, fun filled entertainment - extravaganza at Moody Garden's Palm Beach venue, and unusual cycling opportunities.
